Holiday Dried Flower Workshop & Dinner

Join Shannon Farmer and Ox Eats Grass for a winters evening workshop on the Solstice, December 20th. Starting at 4 pm in the greenhouse, Shannon will take you through the process of creating a beautiful willow branch and dried flower wreath.

While you’re building your beautiful wreaths, hot holiday beverages will be served while we prepare a beautiful 3 course dinner for after your workshop.

Once your wreaths have been expertly crafted, sit back and enjoy a delicious starter, main and dessert of your choosing while reflecting on the workshop and the new craft you’ve learned.

Tickets are $70 and all supplies for the wreaths, drinks and dinner are included in your ticket price. This is a licensed event.

This would make a perfect Solstice gift for a friend or loved one to participate with or gift your beautiful creation to someone you love for Christmas!

“Are You Listening” Book Launch by poet Zaynab Mohammed

“Are You Listening” is a journey of sound, sight and story. Zaynab Mohammed is a writer and award-winning performance poet whose work pays homage to the cultures of her Iraqi, Lebanese and Palestinian ancestors. Inspired by her family’s hardships, Zaynab is a visionary creative who has been healing herself through the written word by sharing her story and giving her audience reflections into love and empowerment. “Are You Listening” is her first book, adapted from her one-woman play of the same name that has been touring since 2023. Zaynab lives and works in Nelson where she hosts the Nelson Poetry Slam.

Hosted in partnership with Helena Bryn-McLeod this event will take place in the barn at The Root, the food truck will be open for 2 hours prior and 1 hour after the event. Out of courtesy for Zaynab the food truck will not be serving during her performance which takes place from 7pm-8pm.

National Day for Truth & Reconciliation Fundraiser

We recognize that as a small business on the unceded territory of the Hul’qumi’num and SENĆOŦEN speaking peoples, the traditional territory of the Quw’utsun Peoples, that we have a responsibility to take action towards reconciliation where we can.

This weekend we will be once again donating 10% of all sales and have opted to donate to the Stqeeye’ Learning Society, a local Indigenous-led non-profit organization working to reclaim traditional lands on so-called Salt Spring Island. Please join us for breakfast or lunch and help us make a small difference in our community.

We opened the food truck one year ago! We made it thru the toughest year of any small business and we are so excited for the year ahead! While it will be a regular day at the food truck we’ll be celebrating by donating treats to a special showing of the film Yintah at Bullock Lake farm, donating 10% of Friday-Monday’s sales to the Stqeeye Learning Society and serving up some delicious apple cream cheese cinnamon buns for SSI Apple Fest.

PS the red trailer in the event image is the food truck prior to us getting our hands on it! This beauty has been home to two previous island businesses! We’re so honoured that we’ve been able to continue feeding this community out of her for a whole year!
